Building Better Financial Habits Since 2017

We started orqavianel because we were tired of budget software that made things harder instead of easier. You know the type—overly complicated spreadsheets, confusing categories, apps that felt like they were designed by accountants for other accountants.

What we wanted was simple. Tools that actually helped people understand where their money goes without requiring a finance degree. Software that felt more like a helpful friend than a judgmental audit.

So we built it ourselves.

How We Got Here

2017

Started with a simple web app that tracked expenses. Nothing fancy—just clean categories and honest tracking. Shared it with thirty friends who were struggling with their budgets. Twenty-seven of them were still using it three months later.

2019

Realized people didn't need more features. They needed better clarity. Stripped out half the options we'd added and focused on making the core experience bulletproof. User retention jumped from 64% to 89% within six months.

2021

Launched mobile apps after two years of requests. Took longer than expected because we refused to release something that felt like an afterthought. The wait was worth it—mobile now accounts for 73% of daily active usage.

2023

Added collaborative budgeting for households and small businesses. Watched couples stop arguing about money and actually start planning together. That's when we knew we'd built something that mattered.

2025

Now supporting over 47,000 active users across Australia. Still refusing to add unnecessary complexity. Still obsessed with making budget management feel effortless instead of overwhelming.

What Drives Our Decisions

Clarity Over Features

We've turned down hundreds of feature requests because they would've made the software harder to use. Every addition needs to make your financial life clearer, not more cluttered.

Privacy First

Your financial data stays yours. We don't sell it, share it, or use it for advertising. Period. Our business model is simple—you pay for software, we build better software.

Real Results

Success isn't about fancy dashboards. It's about whether you actually stick with budgeting. Our average user has been with us for 19 months because the tool works without constant effort.

Meet The Team

We're small on purpose. Smaller teams move faster and stay focused on what matters. Everyone here has spent years wrestling with personal finances before building software to fix the problems we actually experienced.

Astrid Veldkamp

Founder & Chief Strategy Officer

Spent eight years as a financial advisor before realizing most people don't need complex advice—they need simple tools. Built orqavianel's first prototype on weekends while still working full-time.

Petra Lindqvist, Product Development Lead at orqavianel

Petra Lindqvist

Product Development Lead

Former software engineer at three different fintech companies. Left because they prioritized growth metrics over user experience. Joined orqavianel to build software that actually helps people instead of just extracting data.

How We Build Software

Most budget apps are built backwards. Teams start with features and hope people figure out how to use them. We start with the problem—why do people abandon budgets?—and work backwards from there.

Turns out the answer isn't lack of features. It's friction. Every extra step, every unclear label, every confusing option creates another reason to quit. So we remove friction obsessively.

Before we add anything, we ask three questions:

  • Will this make budgeting easier for someone who's never done it before?
  • Can we explain it in one sentence without using financial jargon?
  • Will people still understand this feature six months from now?

If we can't answer yes to all three, it doesn't ship. That's why our software looks simple—because we've done the hard work of making it simple.

Where We're Headed

We're not chasing explosive growth or building features nobody asked for. Our plan for the next few years is straightforward—keep making budget management less painful for more people.

That means better mobile experiences, smarter automation that doesn't feel creepy, and tools that help couples make financial decisions together without the usual tension.

If you're tired of budget software that makes your life harder, try ours. We built it for people who want to understand their money without becoming spreadsheet experts.
